Ole Miss Baseball: No.10 Rebels roll thru Golden Eagles in midweek

Coach Mike Bianco and No.10 Ole Miss baseball were back in midweek action Tuesday night as they faced Southern Miss in Pearl.

No.10 Ole Miss baseball (24-10) travelled to Pearl Tuesday night to face off against Southern Miss (20-10). Coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels entered Pearl coming off a huge weekend SEC series sweep of then No.16 Florida. Over the three-game series the Rebels pounded out 49 hits and scored 40 runs. The Rebels were looking to extend their streak to 4 straight wins against the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss wasted no time and got on the board first with 1 run in the top of the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead. The Rebels responded with 1 run in the bottom of the frame to even the game at 1-1. The Golden Eagles added 1 run in the top of the second inning to retake the lead at 2-1. The Rebels trailed 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Rebels scored 5 runs to take the 6-2 lead. The Rebels added 1 run in the bottom of the seventh and then 4 more runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the 11-2 win. OHT looks at the game by the numbers.

In the midweek win there were 7 Rebels who combined for 9 hits with 2 Rebels recording multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was freshman Knox Loposer who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Sophomore Anthony Servideo followed going 2 for 5 with 1 RBI.

Junior Grae Kessinger and freshman Josh Hall each went 1 for 1 with Kessinger picking up 1 RBI. Senior Chase Cockrell went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI while junior Cole Zabowski and sophomore Tyler Keenan each went 1 for 4 at the plate each with 1 RBI.

On the mound junior left-hander Zack Phillips drew the midweek start. Phillips went for 4.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits with 6 Ks and 2 HBP. Out of the bullpen junior right-hander Austin Miller entered in the fifth going for 1.2 innings allowing no hits with 3 Ks and 1 BB.

Next up for the Rebels was junior right-hander Tyler Myers who went for 1.1 innings allowing 0 earned runs on just 1 hit with 1 BB and 1 HBP. Finishing out the night on the mound for Mike Bianco and the Rebels was freshman right-hander Gunnar Hoglund. Hoglund went for 1.2 innings allowing 0 earned runs on just 1 hit with 1 K.
