Ole Miss Baseball: No.13 Rebels pick up series win in Baton Rouge

Coach Mike Bianco and No.13 Ole Miss baseball were back in action this weekend as the Rebels travelled to Baton Rouge to face No.9 LSU.

No.13 Ole Miss baseball (32-17, 15-9) was back in action over the weekend as they travelled to face-off against the No.9 LSU Tigers (30-18, 14-10) in Baton Rouge. The Rebels entered the three-game SEC series coming off a midweek loss to Southern Miss.

The Rebels swept No.6 Texas A&M last weekend and were looking to get back on track against LSU. Ole Miss dropped game-one in a 3-8 decision but picked up the 5-1 game-two win Saturday night. The Rebels held momentum in game-three picking up the wild 19-15 extra innings win and the series. OHT looks at the series.

Game-one, 3-8, L

Friday night there were 6 Rebels who combined for 9 hits with 2 Rebels recording multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was sophomore Tyler Keenan who went 3 for 4. Junior Cooper Johnson (1HR) went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Freshman Kevin Graham and sophomore Anthony Servideo each went 1 for 3. Junior Grae Kessinger and senior Jacob Adams both went 1 for 4 with Adams knocking in 1 RBI.

Junior right-hander Will Ethridge drew the expected game-one start. Ethridge went for 7.0 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits with 4 Ks. Junior right-hander Tyler Myers entered in the eighth going 0.0 inning allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits. Junior right-hander Austin Miller finished out the night on the hill for the Rebels. Miller went 1.0 inning allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits.

Game-two, 5-1, W

Saturday night there were 5 Rebels who combined for 6 hits. Sophomore Anthony Servideo led all Rebels at the plate going 2 for 4. Junior Thomas Dillard (1HR) and freshman Kevin Graham (1HR) each went 1 for 4. Dillard had 1 RBI while Graham had 3 RBI. Senior Ryan Olenek went 1 for 4 while sophomore Tyler Keenan went 1 for 5.

Freshman left-hander Doug Nikhazy drew the expected start on the mound. Nikhazy went for 6.1 innings allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits with 4 Ks, 1 BB and 1 HBP. Junior right-hander Austin Miller entered in the seventh and went for 1.2 innings allowing no hits with 1 K and 1 BB. Right-hander closer Parker Caracci entered in the ninth and allowed no hits with 1 K.

Game-three, 19-15, W

In Sundays extra innings win there were 9 Rebels who combined for 23 hits with 6 Rebels recording multiple hits games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was junior Cooper Johnson and Jacob Adams who both went 4 for 5. Johnson had 4 RBI while Adams had 1 RBI. Junior Cole Zabowski (1HR) went 4 for 6 with 1 RBI.

Junior Grae Kessinger went 3 for 7 with 3 RBI while sophomore Tyler Keenan went 3 for 6 with 1 RBI. Freshman Kevin Graham (1HR) went 2 for 6 with 2 RBI. Senior Ryan Olenek went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI while freshman Josh Hall went 1 for 1 with 2 RBI. Sophomore Anthony Servideo went 1 for 5 at the plate.

Freshman right-hander Gunnar Hoglund drew the expected start on the hill for the Rebels. Hoglund went for 4.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits with 2 Ks. Junior left-hander Zack Phillips entered in the fifth and went 1.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 1 BB. Junior right-hander Taylor Broadway entered in the seventh and went for 1.0 inning allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 2 Ks.

Right-handed closer Parker Caracci entered in the eighth and went for 1.2 innings allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits with 1 WP and 1 HBP. Bianco went to the pen in the ninth and junior right-hander Austin Miller finished out the inning allowing no hits. Junior right-hander Houston Roth entered in the tenth and allowed 0 earned runs on 2 hits with 2 Ks.

This was a huge series for coach Mike Bianco and No.13 Ole Miss baseball. This was the Rebels first series win in Baton Rouge since 1982. The Rebels will be back in action this weekend as they host No.8 Mississippi State at Swayze Field.
