Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels top Missouri in SEC Tourney

Coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball were back in action Tuesday as they opened the SEC Tourney in Hoover against Missouri.

Tuesday coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball (34-23) began the SEC Tourney in Hoover. Ole Miss entered the tourney coming off a regular season ending win over Tennessee and made the tourney as a No.7 seed. The Rebels would have to face Missouri (34-25-1) in their tourney opener. The Missouri Tigers wouldn’t make it easy.

Missouri got on the board first with 1 run in the top of the second inning to take the early 1-0 lead. The Rebels answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 2-1 lead. Behind a strong showing on the hill the Rebels were able to sneak away with the 2-1 win. OHT looks at the SEC Tourney opening round win by the numbers.

In the Tuesday win there were 6 Rebels who combined for 10 hits with 4 Rebels recording multiple hit games. Leading the Rebels at the plate was junior Thomas Dillard who went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Junior Cole Zabowski went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Senior Ryan Olenek and sophomore Anthony Servideo each also went 2 for 4 at the plate. Senior Jacob Adams and junior Cooper Johnson each went 1 for 4 in the Rebels win.

On the mound junior right-hander Will Ethridge drew the start for Mike Bianco and the Rebels. Ethridge went for 7.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits with 6 Ks.

Junior right-hander Tyler Myers entered in the eighth and went 1.0 inning allowing 0 hits with 3 Ks. Senior right-hander Ryan Olenek pitched the final frame for Bianco and the Rebels allowing 0 hits with 1 K, 1 BB and 1 HBP. Ethridge (6-6) picked up the win while Olenek earned his second save of the season.

Coach Mike Bianco will be back in action Wednesday as they face No.2 seed Arkansas in the second round of the SEC Tourney in Hoover. The game will be televised via SEC Network and will follow game-one 45 minutes later. Good luck to coach Bianco and the Rebels.
