Ole Miss Football: Matt Luke and Rebels keep rolling in recruiting

Ole Miss football kicks off the season in just a couple of months but, the 2020 recruiting cycle has kicked into high gear and the Rebels are rolling.

You can always tell when Ole Miss football is getting closer to the season. It may just be the beginning of July but Ole Miss recruiting has seen a huge upswing over the past month and it is expected to get even better in the coming weeks. Matt Luke and his staff have been busy on the recruiting trail and have been building commitments.

In the month of June alone, coach Matt Luke and the Rebels picked up 15 commitments and added one more July 2. This brings the 2020 Ole Miss recruiting class to 21 total and has boosted the Rebels rankings to No.15 in the nation and No.7 in the SEC. While some Ole Miss football fans were skeptical about recruiting moving forward the month of June shows we are doing great.

Since OHT’s last look at the 2020 recruiting class head coach Matt Luke and the Rebels have picked up seven new commitments. Luke and the Rebels began with the commitments of 3-star DT DeSanto Rollins and 4-star S Eric Reed on June 18.

Rollins is out of Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge and is listed at 6’3 and 269lbs. Rollins has a 247Sports Composite of 0.8519. Rollins is ranked as the No.44 player in Louisiana and holds offers from Colorado, Colorado State and Houston among others.

Reed is out of Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport and is listed at 6’1 and 197lbs. Reed has a 247Sports Composite of 0.9233 and is ranked as the No.7 player in Louisiana. Reed also holds offers from Virginia, Colorado, Notre Dame and LSU among others.

Matt Luke and the Rebels then picked up the commitment of 3-star WR Jaycob Horn of Tupelo on June 21. Horn is listed at 6’1 and 205lbs and is the No.39 player in Mississippi.

Matt Luke and the Rebels didn’t stop there and picked up the commitment of 3-star ATH De’Rickey Wright of Gadsden City High School in Gadsden, Alabama on June 22. Wright is listed at 6’4 and 220lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.884. Wright is ranked as the No.20 player in Alabama.

June 24 coach Matt Luke and the Rebels gained a commitment from 4-star QB Robby Ashford of Hoover. Ashford is listed at 6’2 and 204lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.9156. Ashford is ranked as the No.10 player in Alabama.

Still not done, Matt Luke and the Rebels picked up the commitment of 3-star WR Kris Abrams-Draine of Spanish Fort, Alabama on June 25. Abrams-Draine is listed at 6’1 and 170lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.8896. Abrams-Draine is ranked as the No.16 player in Alabama.

The month of July began with the commitment of 3-star CB De’Arre McDonald of Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. McDonald is listed at 5’11.5 and 187lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.8856. McDonald is ranked as the No.16 player in Tennessee.
