Ole Miss Football: A look at the Rebels in the 2020 NFL Draft

Qaadir Sheppard, DE/EDGE

Qaadir Sheppard‘s invitation to Indy may have been a surprise to some Ole Miss football fans but it shouldn’t have been. While at Ole Miss Sheppard put up solid numbers at the defensive end, Edge position. Over three seasons Sheppard made 23 starts and racked 81 total tackles with 12 tackles for loss. Sheppard also logged 1.5 sacks, 2 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.

Sheppard checked into the 2020 NFL Combine at 6’3″ and a beefed-up 261 lbs finishing the Combine with an official overall grade of 5.54. Sheppard, 9 lbs heavier than during the 2019 season, impressed Combine scouts with a very fast unofficial 4.83 time in the 40-yard dash, 31.5″ vertical jump and 115.0″ broad jump.

NFL.com has Sheppard projected as a late roster or practice squad addition but OHT believes he has the potential to be far better than many scouts may think. We know the new NFL defenses have gone to using the Edge to wreak havoc and Sheppard could certainly do it for the right defense. With his work ethic he should be able to continue to get better at the next level. OHT believes Sheppard could be a bargain pick in the draft.
