Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Ole Miss football and new Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin have been busy on the recruiting end.

While we may not know exactly what the 2020 edition of Ole Miss football will look like under first year head coach Lane Kiffin, we can be sure of what he has already accomplished. The Lane Train has been picking up a very good looking, although small, 2021 recruiting class. We still have to hope for a college football season this fall but we know our new head coach has been drawing attention to the Rebels program and recruiting will pick up speed.

Besides making some significant hires as head coach and bringing in some top transfers, coach Kiffin and his new staff are racking up the attention of some great high school recruits. At the moment, without ever coaching a game, Lane Kiffin and his staff have the No.65 class in the nation (13th SEC). However, we do know Lane can recruit and we can expect the Rebels to move up in the rankings. For now the 2021 Ole Miss football recruiting class stands at 5 commitments. Lets take a look at those and then give some thoughts.

The first commitment for the Rebels came in late November from MJ Daniels of George County in Lucedale, Mississippi. Daniels is a 6’3 and 185lb ATH and is rated as a 3* with a 247Sports Composite of 0.8856. Daniels is rated as the No.6 player in Mississippi and the No.24 player in the nation at his position.

In April recruiting picked up for the Rebels with the commitments of two WRs. The first came from Adonai Mitchell of Cane Ridge in Antioch, Tennessee. Mitchell is listed at 6’3 and 190lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.883. Mitchell is rated as 3* and ranks as the No.11 player in Tennessee. Mitchell is listed as the No.62 WR in the nation.

The next addition was from 4* WR Bralon Brown of St Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Brown is listed at 6’3 and 190lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.9264. Brown ranks as the No.25 player in Florida and is listed as the No.31 WR in the nation.

Coach Kiffin continued the ball rolling in May as he picked up commitments from 3* OT Micah Pettus and 3* ATH Kyndrich Breedlove. Pettus is out of Sparkman in Harvest, Alabama and is listed at 6’8 and 319lbs with a 247Sports Composite of 0.8410. Pettus ranks as the No.42 player in Alabama and ranks as the No.110 OT in the nation. Breedlove is out of Pearl-Cohn in Nashville, Tennessee and is listed at 5’10.5 and 165lbs. Breedlove has a 247Sports Composite of 0.8776 and ranks as the No.14 player in Tennessee and the No.31 ATH in the nation.

While we wait and wonder about both high school and college football this fall because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we can be certain of one thing. The Lane Train will be busy and more young players will be getting on board. Forget about stars and player or team recruiting rankings. Coach Kiffin will provide the Rebels with plenty of talent as he readies for the 2020 Ole Miss football season and beyond. Stay safe and Hotty Toddy!
