Ole Miss Football: Taking A Look At The 2020 Rebels Quarterbacks
And So We Begin
OHT is beginning first with who many Rebels fans consider being the Top-3 quarterbacks on the 2020 Rebels roster. Of course, no one can really be sure who may be the starter under new head coach Lane Kiffin. However, Kiffin’s decision will be based on experience and the ability to successfully operate in and run the new offense. Based on these factors, OHT proceeds as follows.
Matt Corral
Rebels fans are very familiar with sophomore Matt Corral (6’1, 206lbs). While at Ole Miss Corral has shown his ability on the field. In 2018 Corral appeared in 4 games as a true freshman and was then redshirted finishing the season completing 16 of 22 passes for 239 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT. Corral also had 13 carries for 83 yards and 2 TDs on the ground.
In 2019 Corral made the first 4 starts of the season with 10 overall appearances. Corral would still finish the season as the Rebels passing leader going 105 of 178 passes for 1,362 yards, 6 TDs, and 3 INTs. Corral also had 57 carries for 135 yards rushing with 1 TD.
John Rhys Plumlee
Rebels fans weren’t sure what they were in for when then true freshman John Rhys Plumlee (6’0, 192lbs) took the field for an injured Matt Corral in 2019. However, it didn’t take long to see how comfortable and capable Plumlee was as an SEC quarterback. Plumlee would make 9 appearances with 8 starts and finish the season with some incredible numbers.
Plumlee finished the 2019 season completing 79 of 150 attempts with 4 TDs and 3 INTs. While his passing numbers weren’t outstanding his rushing numbers were phenomenal. Plumlee rushed for 1,023 yards on 154 carries (6.6 yards per carry) and had 12 TDs.
Plumlee holds the Ole Miss freshman rushing record for yardage as well as total touchdowns. Plumlee was named 2019 True Freshman All-America (247Sports) and to the 2019 Freshman All-America Second Team (Athletic).
Grant Tisdale
Redshirt freshman Grant Tisdale (6’0, 205lbs) may not have the experience on the field which Corral and Plumlee have but it doesn’t make him any less talented. Tisdale has seen action within the SEC which came against Alabama in 2019. In his Rebels debut, Tisdale completed 2 of 2 attempts for 56 yards with 1 TD while also rushing for 10 yards on 2 carries.
Tisdale, out of Allen Texas, was highly touted out of high school and ranked as the No.12 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals. While at Allen, Tisdale went 30-1 as a starter with 101 touchdowns (69 passing, 32 rushing) and only 9 INTs. In his senior season, Tisdale had 47 TDs with just 4 INTs. Tisdale is very capable of playing the quarterback position for the Rebels and possibly could.
