Ole Miss football begins the 2020 college football season when the Rebels face off against former MSU head coach Dan Mullin and the Florida Gators.

Rebels fans will have to wait no longer for Ole Miss football. Saturday 26, 2020 marks the date when the 2020 college football season begins for the SEC. The Rebels have a new head coach, in Lane Kiffin, who has experience in coaching and a roster filled with talent. Kiffin also has a solid group of assistant coaches who have experience.

Saturday, in the Rebels season opener, the Lane Train will have to hit on all cylinders as they face the No.5 Florida Gators. Ole Miss football fans all too well realize what is at stake in this game. In a season where the SEC will have zero gimme games, this is a huge task for Kiffin and a relatively young Ole Miss football team. Oh yeah, there is also the fact that Dan Mullin is the head coach of the Gators.

From the moment Dan Mullen was announced as the head coach at Miss State, there were arrows slung at Ole Miss. Mullen was adored by MSU fans for his remarks about Ole Miss being “That School Up North.” That led to Rebels fans embracing the TSUN moniker.

Ole Miss football fans also embraced the fact he could use the already toxic rivalry to motivate a Bulldogs team to win week in and week out through eleven games and yet still couldn’t muster a winning record against the Rebels while in Starkpatch.

However, Mullen has proven himself to be a very good coach. As a head coach, he has built an overall record of 90-51 that includes a 21-5 record since he has been at the helm of the Florida Gators. In 2019 Mullen and the Gators finished the season with an 11-2 mark and an Orange Bowl Championship.

On The Series

Everybody knows the Gators are legit and have established themselves as a perennial favorite in the SEC East. Over the course of the series between Ole Miss and Florida, there has been no clear favorite even when the Gators were clearly considered the better team by many pundits. Of course, no one can forget when the Rebels upset the No.1 ranked Gators and Tim Tebow in Gainesville.

Per the OleMissSports.com Ole Miss/Florida primer,

"This is the 25th meeting all-time between Ole Miss and Florida … Ole Miss holds a 12-11-1 lead in the series, while Florida has a 5-2 edge in Oxford … They last squared off in 2015, but haven’t faced each other in Oxford since 2007. ~OleMissSports.com"
