Mississippi State Bulldogs

Every Ole Miss football fan knows what this game means. The Egg Bowl is not just a rivalry game between the Rebels and Miss State Bulldogs, but also a rivalry between family, friends, and coworkers. The banter around the turkey and water cooler can become as heated as the matchup on the field. Over the years, this is the game that means the most to the coaches, players, and fans.

Like Lane Kiffin is to Ole Miss football, Mike Leach has brought an air of excitement to the Miss State football program with his ‘Air Raid’. The offense wasn’t as productive as Miss State fans wanted to see and certainly not what was expected. In 2020, the Bulldogs finished out the season with an unimpressive overall record of 4-7.

The Bulldogs started strong with what they believed was an awesome win against 2019 National Champion LSU. However, they stumbled throughout the season picking up two more regular-season wins over Vanderbilt and Missouri. The Bulldogs did get into the Armed Forces Bowl with a 3-7 record where they picked up an ugly 28-26 win over Tulsa.

Coach Mike Leach and the Bulldogs do have a pretty good defense and an offense loaded with weapons. Sophomore quarterback Will Rogers has proven he can play at the SEC level and put up good numbers when he replaced AJ Costello early in the season. Rogers finished up the 2021 season completing 239 passes of 346 attempts for 1,976 yards and 11 TDs with 7 INTs. Rogers is a very good quarterback and has weapons around him to throw to.

MIke Leach and the Bulldogs are a good team who simply missed out on a few good wins in 2020 like the game against Georgia and Ole Miss. The Bulldogs will definitely win more games in 2021 than in 2020 but it’s only because of the mid-majors they will face. The Golden Egg will travel back to Oxford with the Rebels.
