“Portal King” is seemingly becoming a more and more fitting name for Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. The Ole Miss football program has landed its second top quarterback in two days via the transfer portal, this time it’s Oklahoma State’s Spencer Sanders.

Sanders will be an upcoming senior grad transfer next season, entering his fifth year of college football. He was a four-year starter for the Cowboys from 2019-2022 where he started a total of 44 games.

Sanders will bring a lot of experience with him to Oxford. He threw for 9,553 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions in his time at Oklahoma State. Much like current Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, Sanders is also a dual threat accounting for almost 2,000 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns for the Cowboys as well.

This past season, despite missing three games, Sanders went 212 of 368 passing for 2,642 yards and 17 touchdowns, with nine interceptions and a 128.3 quarterback rating. He also added 391 yards on the ground for eight touchdowns.

The Cowboys finished last year with a record of 7-6, going 0-3 with Sanders out of the lineup. 2021 would be his best season when he helped lead OSU to a 12-2 record and a Big 12 Championship appearance.

It is unclear at this time what will happen with a now-stacked quarterback room for the Rebels. The Ole Miss football program added LSU transfer Walker Howard, another top prospect, just a day ago. Now both transfer quarterbacks are joining last season’s starter Jaxson Dart who transferred in from USC last offseason.

This could make things hairy at quarterback. With the addition of Sanders who only has one year of eligibility left and Howard who will likely also compete for the job, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dart’s name in the transfer portal soon.

Whichever way it shakes out, Ole Miss football fans should feel confident about the level of talent in the quarterback room going forward.
