The Ole Miss basketball team has had a season to forget during the 2022-23 campaign and the latest loss to South Carolina is just a small summary of the totality of this season.

While the Ole Miss basketball squad has not exactly been having a memorable season so far, the South Carolina men’s basketball team is likely the only team in the SEC that may be having an even worse season.

This past Saturday, the Gamecocks were determined to climb their way out of the bottom. Misery does love company, after all. The Rebels led at halftime and for the majority of the game, it looked like they might be on their way to another win over South Carolina.

The Rebels held a lead late but ended up letting it slip, going on to lose 64-61 to the Gamecocks. Tye Fagan led Ole Miss in scoring with 17 points followed by Robert Allen who added 10 of his own.

Ole Miss also shot just 37 percent from the field and an abysmal 26 percent from three compared to South Carolina’s 42 and 36 percent. South Carolina is the only team currently in the SEC with a worse win-loss record than the Rebels.

They currently sit at 12 and 13 in the SEC standings respectively. Only LSU is lower, being dead last, with a 12-13 overall record but a 1-11 record in the SEC.

Before this win on Saturday over the Rebels, the Gamecocks men’s basketball team hadn’t picked up a win in just over a month, their last being a victory over Kentucky on January 10.

With this loss, the Rebels fall to 10-15 overall on the year and 2-10 in conference play. The Rebels will next take the court again Tomorrow night February 15, when they hit the road to face the Florida Gators.
