Former Ole Miss football wide receiver Donte Moncrief officially announces his retirement from playing football on Twitter.

Donte Moncrief was one of the best wide receivers in college football during his time at Ole Miss. Moncrief played for the Rebels from 2011 to 2013.

A Raleigh, Mississippi native, Moncrief is regarded as one of the last decade’s best Ole Miss football players. He played in every game in his three years in Oxford and put up some big-time numbers in his time in the red and blue.

As a freshman in 2011, Moncrief played in all 12 games and had 31 receptions for 451 yards and four touchdowns, an impressive stat line as a true freshman in the SEC. He was just shy of 1,000 yards in his next two seasons.

Moncrief had a breakout year with Ole Miss as a sophomore in 2012 posting a stat line of 66 catches for 979 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Led by first-year head coach Hugh Freeze, Moncrief played a pivotal role in helping the Rebels turn the program around in a rebuilding season where they finished at 7-6 including a Compass Bowl win over Pittsburgh.

Moncrief would follow his stellar 2012 season up with another big year in 2013 catching 59 balls for 938 yards and six touchdowns. That year the Rebels took another step with Moncrief’s help finishing at 8-5 with a Music City Bowl win over Georgia Tech.

He would then go on to be selected in the third round of the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts in 2014. In the NFL he played seven total years for seven different teams. His first three years were spent with the Colts where he played a sizeable role in their offense.

He then bounced around to six other teams after the 2017 season which would be his last in Indianapolis.

Moncrief finished his NFL career with 205 catches for 2,576 yards and 21 touchdowns.
