The bracket and schedule for the SEC tournament have been released and we now know who the first-round matchup will be for the men’s Ole Miss basketball team.

After securing a win against the SEC last-place team LSU Tigers, Ole Miss would go on to drop their last two games of the regular season to Texas A&M and Missouri to secure the next-to-last seed in the conference at number 13.

Ole Miss basketball finished the regular season with an 11-20 overall record going 3-15 in the SEC. That mark is their worst finish both overall and in conference play since the 1994-95 season under head coach Rob Evans when they went 8-19 overall and 3-13 in the SEC.

The Rebels are no doubt looking ahead to next season already. They are said to be meeting with fired Texas Longhorns head coach Chris Beard and will likely be meeting a handful of potential new head coaches in the coming weeks.

With that being said, there is still the SEC tournament left to play, and while expectations are low for the Rebels, anything could happen and a team who feels like they have nothing to lose is especially dangerous.

Only the four bottom teams will play in the first round, with seeds 11 through 14. Ole Miss will be taking on the 12th-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks first. Ole Miss is 1-1 against the Gamecocks this year.

Round one will take place on Wednesday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on SEC Network. The winner of this game will play Tennessee in the second round, a game that is winnable for the Rebels as well as they only lost by four points to the Volunteers earlier this year.

Call me crazy, but I think this Ole Miss basketball squad could pull a couple of early upsets in this tournament. My prediction for game one: Ole Miss – 68, South Carolina – 65.
