Catching you up on the latest Ole Miss news: College football’s spring season is underway and the Rebels are holding open practices ahead of the annual Grove Bowl.

It’s spring football time again in the college football world and Ole Miss has been getting after it for about a week now.

Spring football is a good time for coaches to get an early look at their new roster after a lot of turnover from players graduating, leaving for the NFL, new transfers, and early enrollee freshmen coming in.

There are a lot of questions around Ole Miss this spring, many that may not be fully answered until this fall, the biggest being the quarterback situation.

Fans will get a chance to see the team for themselves ahead of the Grove Bowl as Ole Miss football will hold open practices on April 1 and April 8. The two Saturday practices will be held at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and are set to begin at 10:45 a.m. CST.

This year’s Grove Bowl will take place on Saturday, April 15, at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with a kickoff time of 2:00 p.m. CST.

More Ole Miss news: Men’s basketball guard Matthew Murrell to return for his fourth season in Oxford

The leading scorer for Ole Miss men’s basketball has officially announced he will be returning to Oxford next season to suit up for the Rebels again. This past season Matthew Murrell led the Rebels in total points with 433 averaging 14.4 a game.

He also led the Rebels in three-pointers made with 62, free throw percentage shooting 84.3% behind the line, and total minutes played averaging 34.3 minutes a game.

Murrell’s decision was no doubt swayed by the news of the hiring of Chris Beard to be the new men’s basketball coach, and Beard has to be happy that his top scorer will be staying put.

Murrell, who was a four-star prospect out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, was one of the few bright spots in what was a forgettable season for Ole Miss basketball.
