The Ole Miss basketball program received some good news on Monday with the announcement that guard Brandon Murray from Georgetown will be coming to Oxford.

New Ole Miss men’s basketball head coach Chris Beard is already getting to work building the program into what will hopefully be a contender. After the firing of former coach Kermit Davis this past season, Beard was announced as the new head man for the Rebels on March 13.

Monday night Beard received his first transfer commitment in Georgetown guard Brandon Murray after Murray paid a visit to Oxford this past weekend.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound guard started 27 of 32 games for the Bulldogs this past season and finished as their second-leading scorer averaging 13.7 points per game. He also accounted for just under four rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Murray’s shooting efficiency is something that the Rebels lacked this year and is no doubt a large part of why Beard wanted to bring him on to join the Ole Miss basketball program. He shot 39.7% from the field and 31.8% from three this past year.

Normally considered one of college basketball’s most prestigious programs, Georgetown has had some down years as of late. The Bulldogs are a combined 13-50 over the last two seasons and have just hired a new head coach after letting go of former head coach Patrick Ewing at the conclusion of the season.

Brandon Murray began his career at LSU, earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors after starting 32 of 33 games for the Tigers. In that season he averaged 10 points, three rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while averaging 31 minutes as a true freshman.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Murray was a standout at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida his senior year before making his way to LSU as the 95th-ranked high school player in the ESPN 100 list for the class of 2021. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
