Former Ole Miss football quarterback Jordan Ta’amu was named the XFL offensive player of the year for the 2023 season and has led the D.C. Defenders to the league’s championship game.

Jordan Ta’amu gave Ole Miss fans many memorable moments in his time in Oxford as the Rebels quarterback and this spring he’s given many XFL fans plenty to remember as well.

Ta’amu was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year for this season, which is played in the spring immediately following the conclusion of the NFL season. The league just wrapped up its regular season and first round of playoffs this past weekend.

Ta’amu hasn’t only put up great individual numbers, he’s helped the D.C. Defenders to a 9-1 overall record and an appearance in the XFL’s championship game.

He finished the regular season going 143-of-229 passing for 1,894 total yards and 14 touchdowns, with just three interceptions. His interception total was the lowest among all of the  XFL starting quarterbacks

Ta’amu also added to the rushing attack for the Defenders, ranking seventh in the league with 298 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He ranked second in the league in total offense as well, accounting for 215.2 yards per game.

He played for two years in Oxford from 2017-2018. In his final year with Ole Miss football, he was 266-for-418 passing for 3,918 yards and 19 touchdowns. He would go undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft but played in the first iteration of the new XFL in 2020 for the St. Louis Battlehawks before the league’s suspension due to the covid pandemic.

Jordan Ta’amu and the D.C. Defenders will be playing against the Arlington Renegades in the XFL Championship Game this Saturday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. CST/8:00 p.m. EST in San Antonio Texas. It will be broadcast on  ABC.
