There’s been a string of good news as of late for the Ole Miss football program that includes adding the top cornerback in the state of Mississippi and landing another NCAA transfer portal defensive lineman.

The Lane Train doesn’t stop no matter what time of the year it may be. Ole Miss football head coach Lane Kiffin landed two big-time players for the program earlier this week.

The first player that announced he would be coming to Oxford via the NCAA transfer portal was defensive lineman Akelo Stone from Georgia Tech. The decision came quickly for Stone as he entered the transfer portal from Georgia Tech only a few weeks ago. He was recently on the Ole Miss campus for an official visit.

Stone’s decision to enter the portal likely surprised many at Georgia Tech, as he was named the Yellow Jacket’s Rock Perdoni outstanding defensive lineman following their spring practice and was likely to be a key figure in Georgia Tech’s defensive line rotation next season.

The 6’ 2, 280-pound Stone appeared in 12 games in 2022, registering 12 total tackles and four sacks. The Savannah, Georgia native was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in 2019.

The next player that has announced his commitment to the Ole Miss football program is Clarksdale High School cornerback Patrick Broomfield.

Broomfield is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports for the class of 2024. As a junior last season, he registered over 60 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions, including one pick-6.

When asked about his decision to commit to the Rebels, Broomfield said “It just felt like home from the jump, and the relationship I had with the whole staff they made me feel home. Ever since they offered me, they stayed in contact every day.”

The 6’2, 175-pound cornerback had over 20 offers and chose Ole Miss over programs like LSU, Mississippi State, and Oregon among others.
