The Ole Miss football team got off to a hot start to the 2023 season when they scored 73 points against the Mercer Bears last week. Week two will likely bring another scoring fest but this time by both teams as Tulane possesses one of the most efficient offenses in all college football.

A week ago, it was a near-perfect season-opening performance for the Ole Miss football team. It was only near perfect because the Rebels defense gave up a 75-yard touchdown run on their first play from scrimmage, but they played a complete game from that point on allowing just 160 yards the rest of the way.

While the Rebels defense had one major hiccup, the offense was right on schedule with 73 points and 524 passing yards, which set a program record. It was about as clean of a game as you could ask for in a season opener, but in week two this Ole Miss team is going to be tested by No. 24 ranked Tulane.

It’s hard to judge just how good new defensive coordinator Pete Golding’s defense is right now after only one game against an FCS opponent, but we will see just how improved this defense is from a year ago on Saturday.

Tulane finished the 2022 season ranked inside the top 20 in all of college football in total offense averaging 36 points per game. Last week they handily beat South Alabama by a score of 37-17 and quarterback Michael Pratt threw for just shy of 300 yards and four touchdowns. Last year he accounted for 37 total touchdowns, 27 through the air and 10 on the ground, as he led Tulane to a 12-2 record and a win over USC in the Cotton Bowl.

One thing is for sure, with the over/under set at 66.5, we are going to see two high-powered offenses go at it and this game could turn into a track meet if the Rebels’ defense looks anything like it did in 2022. This game should be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend in college football.
