A four star recruit from the 22 class, Austin Nunez committed to Arizona State back in 2021. In his freshman season he featured in 28 games, 2 as a starter, averaging 16.3 minutes per game. Nunez was highly touted, receiving offers from schools such as Virginia, Creighton and others.
During his freshman campaign, Nunez averaged 4.5 points per game, had a team best from the three at 37.7%. He also averaged 1.1 rebounds and had 24 assists on the season. He had career best 15 points against No.20 Michigan, earning him the Pac 12 freshman of the week award. Nunez did miss the final 8 games of the season, due to a concussion.
Nunez had a lot of interest after confirming he was entering the transfer portal in March 2023. Baylor, Vanderbilt, as well as new Ole Miss Head Coach Chris Beard’s previous team Texas. Some places believed Texas may snatch Nunez, with him being a native of Garden Ridge.

However, Coach Beard managed to secure the talented guard, adding to his big group of commits from the portal.
Nunez brings some healthy competition and expectations with him to Oxford. He is listed as a point guard, but does have the flexibility to play on and off the ball. He is quick and is an excellent passer of the ball, effective on the move with both hands.
As mentioned, he was the leader on 3 point shooting success rate with the Sun Devils. An area to his game that has been successful from high school to this point. Nunez is also not to be slept on when it comes to his defensive work.
Austin Nunez was an excellent pick up for the Rebels, adding a young and hungry player, ready to make a real impact for the team. Whether on offense or defense, Nunez should be a key asset for Coach Beard this season.
