Ole Miss football has already seen a number of awards this season. Only yesterday was head coach Lane Kiffin added to the ‘Bear’ Bryant Coach of the Year Award watchlist. Now Rebels True Freshman linebacker Suntarine Perkins is getting recognition.

We are heading into week 8 of the college football season, which means sadly only half of the games still remain. This also means awards and watchlists are being handed out at the mid way point.

True Freshman linebacker Suntarine Perkins has had a great start to his collegiate career at Ole Miss. This has been recognised by 247sports, with Perkins being selected to the midseason True Freshman All-American team.

Perkins has been one of the stand out players on the Rebels defense. The true freshman has already hit 24 total tackles and 3.5 sacks, with 2 of those sacks coming against Alabama.

The Mississippi native was a 5 star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, while also being the number 1 prospect out of Mississippi. He was also ranked the 3rd overall linebacker in the class.

Perkins has been that good as a true freshman that he’t put a lot of people on notice, including the head coach of the current college football champions, Kirby Smart. As well as Smart, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is a big fan. with the Crimson Tide heavily trying to recruit Perkins before he committed to Ole Miss.

The 6’3 205 pound Perkins has all the skills to be a monster in college, then doing the same on Sundays in the NFL. He is an athletic playmaker on defense, with great length and plays a physical game.

He has now burned through his redshirt as a freshman, which tells you all you need to know about how highly the Ole Miss coaching staff regard him.

If Perkins can keep up the performances for the second half of the season, then expect more awards to roll in for the true freshman.
