It’s been a fun week of midseason watchlist awards being announced. There has been plenty heading the way of Ole Miss, with the head coach Lane Kiffin being selected on two. Players are also getting recognition, now QB Jaxson Dart has made a midseason watchlist.
After 6 games in the 2023 college football season, QB Jaxson Dart has been excellent. After transferring in 2022 from USC, big things were expected of the former 4 star recruit.
After a slow start in his first season with the Rebels, Dart has kicked on in 2023. Put that down to finding his feet, with him well and truly locating them this year. The Junior QB has completed 107 passes from 167 attempts, producing 1,638 passing yards and 12 TDs. Tag on his 302 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs, it’s been a pretty good start to the season.
The Manning award panel agree, adding Dart to the watchlist, joining 14 other QBs who have been additionally added to the watchlist. They join 33 others who were added at the start of the season. Dart was added along with Penn State’s Drew Allar, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and others.
The Manning award will be determined by a select panel of media covering college football. Finalist will be announce in late November, with the winner being announced after the College Football Playoff National Championship.
The award is a very prestige trophy, named after Archie Manning and his sons Peyton and Eli, all three leaving lasting legacies as QBs in college and the NFL.
If Dart can continue his form going into the final 6 games, he has a good chance as anybody of scooping the award.
It would be a significant win if Dart manages to claim the award. He would be the first Ole Miss player to win the trophy in its 19 year history. Also, it would be extra special with Eli Manning being a former quarterback at the university of Mississippi.
