On Tuesday evening, the CFP ranking committee had Ole Miss ranked number 9, moving up one spot. Their opponents on Saturday are currently ranked number 2 and are reigning back-to-back college champions. Where would Ole Miss move up to, with a victory over Georgia?

Tuesday saw the CFP ranking committee get together for the second time this season. They put Ole Miss at number 9, in front of Penn State at 10 and just behind Alabama, who gave the Rebels their only loss this season.

It’s thin margins separating the top 10, with a win or a loss for any team causing a climb or a topple. With many of the top 25 facing off this weekend and in the final two weeks, a lot will change.

The CFP ranking committee has Georgia ranked at number 2. If Ole Miss can take their record to 9-1 with a victory over the Bulldogs, where will they be ranked on Tuesday?

The Rebels already have 2 wins over top 25 ranked opponents, beating LSU and Tulane. Their only loss is against number 8 ranked Alabama. With a win against Georgia, they may need other things to go their way to move up drastically.

If very team above them won, with Georgia being the only team losing to Ole Miss, it’s going to be interesting. Will Georgia fall below Ole Miss? The Bulldogs have only one win over a current top 25 team, in Missouri.

It’s likely Ole Miss will move up to the 7 position, maybe 6th at a push. Washington play 18th ranked Utah, while the others just above them play unranked opponents. Likely they would leap over Texas and possibly Oregon, who play USC this weekend.

The chances are slim. However, if the Rebels win, Washington lose to Utah and Florida State lose to unranked Miami, they could sneak into the top 4. It would be between themselves, Oregon and Washington.

Georgia would slip out with Florida State,  with Alabama likely taking one of the spots. Although, Texas do have a win over the Crimson Tide and are ahead of them at the moment. If they crush TCU, with Quinn Ewers as the starter, they could be a top 4 team with the results above happening.

Oh, it’s messy, with so many if’s and but’s to be taken into account for Ole Miss. One thing they must do to change their CFP ranking for the better, is beat Georgia Saturday.
