Earlier today Texas A&M fired head coach Jimbo Fisher, despite winning 51-10 yesterday against Mississippi State. The job is quite a big one, with the Aggies a powerhouse in the recruiting world. Will Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin be a candidate for the job?

It dragged on for a while, but it seemed like only a matter of time before Jimbo Fisher was relieved of his duties at Texas A&M. That time came early today, with the board now having to pay a college football record $77 million dollar buyout.

With the firing, comes a big search for a suitable candidate and a big opportunity for somebody.

There have been lots of names thrown into the ring by media outlets. However, per 247sports, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has had his name mentioned.

Lane Kiffin is coming off a devastating loss to Georgia yesterday, with the head coach bringing up that recruiting needs to improve if the Rebels want to compete with the SEC powerhouses.

Texas A&M are a team that does very well when it comes to recruiting. Something Fisher did well at, without the results coming with it.

Kiffin has shown he is a good recruiter with the resources he has had at his disposal at Mississippi and will achieve another 8 to 10-win season this year.

The job at College Station would interest a high number of current college coaches, with Lane Kiffin included in that. Does Kiffin feel he has taken the Rebels as far as he can?

Last season he was heavily linked with the Auburn job, However, he decided to stay with Ole Miss, saying he doesn’t believe that limitations for smaller programs are a bigger issue than past seasons. This was said regarding the transfer portal and NIL.

With the news still fresh, the Aggies athletics director Ross Bjork and the board will need to compile a list of candidates. Don’t expect anything to happen quickly.

If Lane Kiffin is one of those ideal candidates, then he will have a big decision to make. He does seem happy in Mississippi with the Rebels. However, will the chance to coach a team that has a lot of the foundations in place to challenge in the SEC be too good to turn down?
