After a devastating Saturday night loss to Georgia, it was expected that Ole Miss would drop down the AP Poll rankings. How many places would the Rebels fall was the question.
After a back and forth 1st quarter and a bit on Saturday, Ole Miss looked like they could hang with the current college football champions. However, it went down hill very quickly. After the Rebels levelled it up at 14-14, the Bulldogs rattled off 31 unanswered points.
The difference in class was clear, especially in the trenches. The loss would have hit harder than most, with the Rebels high on confidence, coming into the game on a 5 game win streak and sitting at number 9 in the CFP Rankings.
This Tuesday, we will see how far Ole Miss have dropped with their second loss of the season. However, the new AP Poll came out earlier today, with the Rebels expected to drop from the number 10 spot they occupied before the weekend games.
The Rebs dropped three places to number 13 in the latest AP Poll, dropping below Missouri and Penn State.
Despite the heavy loss to the Bulldogs, Ole Miss still has a chance to save the season, by getting back to a New Years bowl game.
The Rebels have Louisiana-Monroe and rivals Mississippi State left to play this season. Winning both those games should see them ranked inside the top 12, with their two losses likely against top 7 ranked opponents.
Head coach Lane Kiffin will need to pick the team up after the devastating loss, to make sure they are ready for ULM next week. Even though they are expected to win the game, they don’t want a hangover heading into the game.
The big week 13 game is the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State, who are struggling this season. However, form can go out of the window in rivalry games, with the Bulldogs looking to give their fans something to shout about this season.
Can Kiffin take the Rebels to another New Years bowl game?
