Late yesterday evening, the CFP rankings were announced. As expected, the Rebels fell outside the top ten after their loss to Georgia. How far down did Ole Miss drop?

Unlike last week’s rankings, Ole Miss fans weren’t racing to check the CFP rankings. After the loss to Georgia, the Rebels expected to fall from the number 9 spot.

In Sunday’s AP Poll, Ole Miss dropped from number 10 to number 13 in their rankings. It wasn’t a big fall, as both losses were against top 8 opponents.

The CFP rankings committee were on the same page, dropping the Rebels to number 13.

There were a few teams that moved around from rank nine and below. Missouri, Louisville and Oregon State jumped above them with big wins.

However, Penn State also lost but were still are ranked one spot ahead of the Rebs. It’s likely due to their two losses, which both came against opponents ranked in the top four.

Despite the loss to Georgia, Ole Miss are still on course for a New Year’s Bowl appearance. It would be the second time under HC Lane Kiffin they have been ranked in the top twelve.

Back in 2021, the Rebels finished 10-2 under Kiffin. A record that the fans will likely expect looking at their final two regular season games.

In both games, Ole Miss are huge favourites. This weekend’s game is against ULM Warhawks in Oxford. The match-up would take an almighty terrible performance to lose.

The final regular season game is on the road, against rivals Mississippi State. Kiffin lost the Egg Bowl last season, with a win this time, very important for the team.

Despite the Georgia loss that left a disappointment around the fan base, the team is in a great position. If Kiffin and the team win out and then win their bowl game, it’s another excellent season.
