After a tough time in Athens in week 11, the Rebels will be happy to see a beatable team in front of them. Their opponents Louisiana-Monroe will be trying their best to keep the score respectful.
Lane Kiffin will have talked a lot about the upcoming game against Louisiana-Monroe. Firstly, getting the player’s minds focused after a disappointing last weekend. Then, despite the difference in ability with their opponents, not expecting an easy game.
Louisiana-Monroe are on an eight-game losing streak and sit bottom of the Sun-Belt West. The Warhawks have already lost to an SEC team this season, going down 47-3 against Texas A&M.
ULM have struggled on both sides of the ball. On defense they are giving up 453.4 yards a game to opposing teams. The offense isn’t fairing much better, averaging 330.3 yards per game.
At the quarterback position, head coach Terry Bowden has said Jiya Wright will be the starter on Saturday. Freshman QB Blake Murphy can only appear in one more game without burning his redshirt.
"“We thought we would keep him until the final (game) where we can use both quarterbacks and not use him this week either,” Terry Bowden."
One of the Warhawks key players on offense is wide receiver, Tyrone Howell. The Biletnikoff Award candidate has 516 receiving yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Louisiana-Monroe has 18 total takeaways this season, with David Godsey Jr and Ja’Terious Evans having three interceptions. The offense has not capitalized on the turnovers. However, the Rebels still need to look after the ball as it’s good practice.
The teams have met four times previously, with Ole Miss winning all four games. The last meeting was in 2018, with Ole Miss winning a lopsided game 70-21.
It’s the final home game of the season for the Rebels, which means it’s Senior Day. There are a number of seniors taking part, with some maybe returning in 2024.
If Ole Miss is locked in, it will be win number nine of the season. It will also be the second season going undefeated at home under Lane Kiffin.
