It’s just under 24 hours until the 120th edition of the Egg Bowl, the rivalry match between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Rebels are looking for their tenth win of the season and bragging rights in Mississippi.

The Golden Egg Trophy is up for grabs on Thursday evening in the 120th Egg Bowl. Ole Miss will be looking to reclaim the trophy, going down 24-22 in Oxford last season.

Both teams are coming off below-average wins, the Rebels needing 28 second-half points to pull away from ULM. Mississippi State held off a late fightback from Southern Missouri to win 41-20.

The win took the Bulldogs to 5 wins, still needing one more to make them bowl-eligible. Greg Knox will be in charge for the second time as Interim Head Coach, looking to finish 2-0 and with a famous Egg Bowl win.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is also eager for a win, losing out last season and taking his Egg Bowl record to 1-2. Kiffin has already been poking a bit of fun towards MSU regarding the cowbells.

A win for the Rebels would take them to 10 wins and with other results going their way, a second New Year’s Bowl game. A win in the bowl game and against Mississippi State would make it an 11-win season, the best under Kiffin.

Ole Miss are double-digit favourites in the game, but in rivalry games it all goes out the window.

Despite being on the field way more than they would have liked, the Mississippi State defense has been solid. They have impact players that can make it difficult for the Rebels high powered offense, if they perform like they did against ULM.

Ole Miss leads the overall series 64-46-6, winning three out of the last four in Starkville.

Expect it to be loud and chippy, with both teams needing wins for different reasons on Thanksgiving Day.
