The latest CFP Rankings were announced before Championship weekend, with Ole Miss moving up one spot behind Penn State. Can the Rebels rank be affected after this weekend’s games?

The penultimate CFP Rankings were announced yesterday evening, with Ole Miss fans wondering if they would move up as they did in the AP Poll.

The CFP Committee did follow suit, ranking the Rebels at number 11, with Louisville dropping to rank 14 after their loss to Kentucky on rivalry weekend.

As it stands, Ole Miss will likely be competing in a NY6 Bowl game. However, a couple of teams could affect that on Championship weekend.

Louisville will face number 4-ranked Florida State in the ACC Championship game, while Oklahoma State will face 7-ranked Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. A win for either side could see them jump above the Rebels in next Tuesday’s CFP Rankings, with Louisville the likely candidate to do so.

If Ole Miss can hang on to a place in the NY6 Bowl, then it will be the second time the Rebels have achieved that feat under Lane Kiffin. They competed in the Sugar Bowl in 2021, having finished 10-2 in the regular season. They lost the Sugar Bowl to Baylor, going down 21-7.

Whichever Bowl game Ole Miss competes in this time round, Kiffin will be hoping to get the victory to give him his most successful season with the team. It would be an 11-2 season, with the only losses coming against the two teams competing for the SEC Championship game in Atlanta this weekend.

The next step for Kiffin is trying to get his team to an SEC Championship game, something no Ole Miss head coach has been able to do thus far.

Kiffin is trending his team in the right direction, with the Rebel fans enjoying some of their best times watching Ole Miss football.
