It's been a week since the college football transfer portal opened, and Ole Miss has not wasted any time securing some of the top players, including the No.1 edge, No.1 IOL, and the No.2 tight end, alongside others.
Lane Kiffin had two top wide receivers on campus this weekend, Eric Singleton Jr. and Dane Key. The visits continue in the second week of the portal, and three players will visit Ole Miss over the next few days. Can Kiffin and his staff gain any type of advantage when before they leave to talk to other programs?
Charles Brantley, CB, Michigan State
The top-ten-ranked cornerback on the transfer portal, Charles Brantley, started his Ole Miss visit earlier today. A Michigan State transfer, Brantley has heard from over 20 programs, including Florida State, Oregon, and USC.
The No.9 ranked transfer at cornerback per 247Sports, he would be a welcome addition for Ole Miss, who need players in the secondary. The Rebels have already added Arkansas transfer DB Jaylon Braxton.
Brantley registered 103 career tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, and 23 pass deflections in his four seasons with the Spartans. He had one year of eligibility remaining.
Justice Haynes, RB, Alabama
The portal's No.1 running back transfer, JUstice Haynes, is set to visit Oxford on Tuesday, followed by a visit to South Carolina. Michigan, Ohio State, and Florida are also schools to monitor, reported Pete Nakos of On3.
The Alabama transfer was a four-star player and top 5 running back in the 2023 class. In two seasons with the Crimson Tide, he has 104 carries for 616 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Haynes saw an increased role under new head coach Kalen DeBoer in 2024 but has opted to try to find a more significant role elsewhere.
Another position where Ole Miss is short, they also are in a good position to land ULM running back Ahmad Hardy, who visited last week.
Derion Gullette, LB, Texas
Texas transfer linebacker Derion Gullette will visit Ole Miss on Wednesday and North Carolina on Saturday. The redshirt freshman, the no.132 recruit in the 2023 class, recently completed a visit to Mississippi State.
The Rebels look set to lose Chris Paul Jr., who is expected to be heading to the NFL, so a starting spot is up for grabs. Gullette would have three years of eligibility remaining, and he would be looking to find a place to showcase his skills, not being able to do that with the Longhorns.
