All that aggressive chasing of Duncanville High's 4-star EDGE Landon Barnes is finally paying off for Pete Golding.
The unanimous four-star prospect is already flashing massive potential to take over the starting role as a freshman through his spring progress.
Pete Golding, Bryan Brown laud Landon Barnes
Fresh off high school, Barnes is already leaving his mark in the Manning Center, with everyone from OC Bryan Brown to even head coach Pete Golding lauding his efforts to start this season.
“Landon Barnes is going to be a household name,” Brown confidently said with his chest Friday after practice. “You can write that down."
"He’s a heck of a football player and he’s going to play for us this year for sure.”
At the pace he's going, Barnes will undoubtedly see the backfield in late August. He won't be there as a mere replacement for Princewill Umanmeilen and Da'Shawn Womack, though.
Sure, he'll be the replacement Golding might not need to worry about much, but the consensus top-30 edge defender has so much more potential than simply that from CFP lens. At 6'3", 250 lbs, Barnes is the mountain Golding can wreck the opponents with, leaving Chambliss to handle the chaos in the pocket.
It’s the mean streak Barnes developed in the weight room that left Golding truly impressed.
"Obviously, Landon had a good structure coming in, right? Broad shoulders, big hips, but I think he's put on the right type of weight to be really physical at the point of attack."
Golding putting his stamp on a freshman this early is a massive statement. With Ole Miss gating spring practice, Barnes might just be the breakout player that the entire college football might have never anticipated
