Kendrick Lamar sang "We are not alike" on his famous track "Not Like Us." It turns out that doesn't apply to Alabama and Ole Miss when the 12-team College Football Playoffs are concerned.
The CFP committee bumped out the Crimson Tide in favor of ACC runners-up SMU, which did not go down well with Nick Saban and others. After all the noise last week with Alabama fans saying they deserve the playoff spot more than Ole Miss, it turns out both will be competing in a stand-alone bowl game.
Fans around the nation celebrate Alabama missing out
College football fans nationwide celebrated the fact that Alabama missed out on the 12-team playoff. Kalen DeBoer's first season has not gone well, with losses to Tennessee (10-2), Vanderbilt (6-6), and Oklahoma (6-6).
Alabama was a regular playoff team under the previous head coach, Nick Saban, back when there were just four playoff teams. Saban is now retired, but fans still enjoy seeing the failures of one of the most successful programs in college football.
When Ole Miss fans suggested they had a better 9-3 résumé than Alabama, the Crimson Tide fans were quick to laugh at the fact that the Rebels had no way of getting in regardless of the results from conference championship weekend.
An outpour of cries can still be heard from Tuscaloosa, but they must look at themselves. The loss to Oklahoma in Norman was the big one, a team who was 5-5 at the time and had several offensive weapons missing with injuries.
Ole Miss may have the last laugh, but it's through their tears, as they also blew numerous opportunities to be in the top 12. Both teams will head to bowl games, pondering what could have been.
