Ole Miss head football coach Pete Golding was hit with a massive blindside.
Just seven weeks into his hire, Ole Miss DC Patrick Toney announced that he was leaving Oxford for an NFL gig in Atlanta.
On Friday afternoon, the Falcons hired Toney as their new defensive pass-game coordinator.
It seems that Toney spent much of his time here in Oxford looking for a new home from the day he was hired on Jan. 7, just one day before the Fiesta Bowl.
Being an NFL guy through and through, Toney couldn't turn down the offer when the call came from Atlanta.
Toney's hire comes just two weeks after the Falcons fired their former assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis.
"The Atlanta Falcons have dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis from his role," the team wrote in a brief statement.
Pete Golding in need of new DC for Ole Miss
The ink wasn't even dry on Toney's contract when Golding was pushed right back on the square one on searching for another defensive coordinator.
However, the textbook 'deja vu' moment won't last long in Oxford since Golding has made multiple hires this offseason. So much so that it essentially qualifies to be an entire staff overhaul.
Golding already has his "sea legs" from the Lane Kiffin fallout, making this latest staff shakeup feel like a light breeze.
While Toney makes himself at home in Atlanta, we'll see who Golding brings on board to be his DC replacement at Ole Miss.
With a new vacancy board out on their porch, the Rebels are yet to announce when spring practices will begin.
