On Friday, Ole Miss women's basketball pushed the No.1 ranked team to the end in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal. It was the second time they had done so this season.
It was another 20-win season that could have the Rebels ranked in the top 25 and a No.4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. ESPN believes so, as they were projected to host Baylor, Florida Gulf Coast, and Missouri State in Region 3 Spokane.
If it pans out that way, it would be the first time in program history that Ole Miss has hosted. It's a testament to the Rebels' strides under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. Ole Miss's Madison Scott had nothing but words of love to share about Coach Yo.
"I say it every year, we get better and better every year, under this woman. The opportunity to host, in Oxford, in front of our community, means everything to us."Madison Scott
Coach Yo herself was adamant that the Rebels were a top-25 team. She spoke to the media after the Texas loss and was passionate about her team.
"Did you see the game? Did we look like an unranked team? There you go. We're not No.1 but we should be in the Top-25."Yolett McPhee-McCuin
Mcphee-McCuin has guided the Rebels to the last three NCAA Tournaments, with this year making it four consecutive. In 2023, the team reached the Sweet Sixteen as the No.8 seed. The other two times, they were the No.7 seed.
Last year, they were knocked out in Round 2 by Notre Dame, who should have a good tournament this time round. If the Rebels host, they will have a fantastic chance of making the Sweet Sixteen.
It will be a fun March for Ole Miss fans as the women's and men's teams compete in the NCAA Tournaments.
