Former Ole Miss star joins Rebels in a recruiting staff role where he'll be amazing

A former Ole Miss star is coming home to help bolster the recruiting staff

Lane Kiffin continues firing on all cylinders when it comes to building elite staffs. He notched another great hire this weekend as the news broke that former Rebel standout, 7-year NFL vet, and Raleigh, Mississippi native, Donte Moncrief would be joining the staff in an off-field recruiting position. Moncrief took to social media, stating he is ready to get to work.

Moncrief has long been a vocal spokesperson for the Rebels program and a behind-the-scenes recruiter. Now he will be able to contribute in an official capacity. It is still unclear exactly what his role will be and title, but there was an opening due to two recent departures. Kelvin Bolden, former director of recruiting, left for LSU, and director of player personnel, Alex Brown, left for the Atlanta Falcons.

Moncrief was a three star for the Rebels, immiediately breaking out as a freshman in 2011. He would play in all 12 games, with 31 receptions for 454 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was a named a freshman All-American. Moncrief would take a major step forward for his sophomore year, putting up nearly 1,000 yards and had a 10 touchdown season. He would put up similar numbers in his third and final season.

He appeared in 38 games for the Rebels over those three years hauling in 156 receptions for 2,371 yards and 20 touchdowns. He is currently ranked 6th all-time in career receiving yard for Ole Miss and 4th in touchdowns.

He entered the NFL as a third-round pick (90th overall) by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2014 NFL Draft and quickly established himself as a reliable target for quarterback Andrew Luck. He had a promising start, posting 32 receptions for 444 yards and 3 touchdowns as a rookie, followed by his best season in 2015 with 64 catches for 733 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Moncrief remained a valued contributor, playing for several teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans. Moncrief finished his NFL tenure with 204 receptions, 2,561 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns
