The biggest game in college football will occur in just a few days. Notre Dame will face Ohio State, and both teams want to end their CFP National Championship-winning droughts.
The Buckeyes last won the big game in 2014, the first year of the new four-team playoff layout, beating Oregon in the final. It's been much longer for the Fighting Irish, being crowned consensus end-of-season champions in 1988.
Ohio State comes into this ass over one score favorites, but Notre Dame has continued to silence their doubters ever since their shock loss to Northern Illinois in Week 2. Since then, they have not lost, beating Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State in the playoffs.
Ohio State has lost two games this season, including a close one against Oregon in Eugene, but they did avenge that loss in the playoffs. The one that hurt the most was against an average Michigan team. However, winning a National Title will help Ryan Day, as some fans may forget about that.
Not many will have predicted Notre Dame to make it this far, but head coach Marcus Freeman has a chance to etch his name in Fighting Irish folklore. Ryan Day wants to get the critics off his back; a win will hold them off until things start to go sideways.
SEC teams will watch on at home for the second year in a row, hoping they can change the narrative in 2026.
