Georgia might have avoided an almost upset at the hands of Ole Miss in late October, but they dodged a bullet that has only gotten faster since.
And now that elite problem named Trinidad Chambliss is headed to New Orleans to once again give Smart another headache.
QB Trinidad Chambliss is a serious threat
College Football insider David Pollack spilled some inside secrets from Athens on the Colin Cowherd Show, and it precisely reflected why Chambliss is a serious threat to the Bulldogs in the rematch.
“I think Chambliss is really good. I’m telling you…I talked to a Georgia staffer the other day that said that’s the best quarterback we’ll face in this tournament, no matter who we play. Yep, they would have to play like Ohio State. They’d have to play the big boys," Pollack said.
“They said, ‘When you combine what he can do with his legs and the throws he can make on and off schedule. We will not face a better one. And he’s got another month and a half’s worth of maturation that he didn’t have when we first played him.”’
Even Smart himself could not hold back singing praises of the likes of Chambliss, and went so far as to call him the "best QB in the country."
Chambliss was a menace to the Bulldogs' defense during their regular season game as he went 19-of-36 for 263 yards and a touchdown, one of the inferior set of stats from the QB this season.
The reason that Chambliss couldn't get the numbers up to his usual standard was the whole of Ole Miss offense. Somehow, the offense was completely gassed by the end of the third quarter, as the Bulldogs rallied 17-0 in the fourth quarter.
It was one of the main reasons Kiffin's explosive offense couldn't withstand Smart's squad.
Now, however, the Rebs have learned their lesson. Weis Jr. is back at calling the offense, and in a 'do-or-go-home' Playoff game, he will hardly make the same mistake twice.
Chambliss having another day, and Golding managing to put up a better defensive performance than before, Georgia could be looking at the end of their Playoff run on New Year's.
