Ole Miss football head coach Lane Kiffin is in the midst of spring practice, recruiting, and the opening on the spring transfer portal. However, he still managed to be a guest on one of the biggest podcasts in America, This Past Weekend, w/ Theo Von.
Kiffin spoke for over an hour with the stand-up comedian, discussing life in Oxford, NIL, his family, and many other topics.
One interesting thing he touched on was the extra eligibility that Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia received, as well as other players. Pavia won a lawsuit that granted an extra year, citing the Sherman Act to create his case against the NCAA, arguing that their eligibility rules violated the freedom for "interstate trade".
Kiffin was asked what he thought about the decision by Theo Von and if it impacted some of the decisions of his players.
"We tried, but we didn't win it. Jaxson Dart actually tried to get another year, well at least see if the option was there. They denied it."Lane Kiffin
It would have always been unlikely that he would receive an extra year, but if he had, it would have been an interesting decision for the senior who had spent three seasons in Oxford after transferring from USC. Dart looks set to be the third quarterback selected. In the 2025 NFL Draft later this month. However, he did not know that was the case back then, and he could have opted to start another season with the Rebels.
Dart missed out on the College Football Playoffs in his final year, and he would have maybe liked to run it back again. However, he left the program as the all-time leader in passing yards, toppling legend Eli Manning in the Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State.
Dart heads to Green Bay for the 2025 NFL Draft at the end of April with the possibility of being a first-round selection.
