Lane Kiffin denies reports that Trinidad Chambliss will start vs. LSU: "we haven't made that decision yet"

But it looks like the Ferris State transfer will be starting for a third straight week

The multiple reports that have Trinidad Chambliss starting at quarterback for Ole Miss this Saturday against LSU have apparently caught Lane Kiffin by surprise.

Kiffin was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show and, after McAfee disclosed to Kiffin that Chambliss would be making his third consecutive start for the Rebels, Kiffin said that nothing had been determined yet

"Well, it's good to know. That'd be news to me that the starting quarterback has been figured out. I'll go down and tell our staff right here that Pat broke it, Trinidad's our starting quarterback," Kiffin said to the response of laughter from McAfee and his crew.

"No, we haven't made that decision yet," Kiffin continued. "I do think we have a good team, and we've done some good things and both those quarterbacks are really really good players. So, it's exciting to have them both."

All signs seem to point to Chambliss

We may know more when the injury report for this game is released, but Austin Simmons wasn't on the injury report against Arkansas. Kiffin said he was available, and he did play four snaps against the Razorbacks. The coach said that Simmons was also available last week against Tulane, but with the Rebels winning big, the sophomore sat and let his ankle heal further.

Don't let Kiffin fool you for a second. He knows who's starting on Saturday, and we'd all be shocked if it wasn't Chambliss. The bigger question is if Chambliss is the QB1 in the program? If the Ferris State transfer has another big game this week, will this even be a question moving forward?

If Chambliss put up big numbers against the Tigers this week, he's not just going to be entrenched as the Rebels starting quarterback, he's going to be mentioned in the Heisman race. Chambliss has been THAT good so far.

It's always a tough balance when you have two very good quarterbacks and Simmons didn't lose his job because of his performance. He was injured. It just so happens that the guy behind him might just be the guy Ole Miss needs to compete for the SEC championship and get to the playoffs. Normally, starters don't lose their jobs because of injury, but there's no rule against it and after this week there could be no question that Chambliss makes Ole Miss a better team.

Sometimes that's just the way it goes.
