Ole Miss secured a top quarterback from the transfer portal a few days ago, much to the delight of head coach Lane Kiffin. Trinidad Chambliss transferred in from Ferris State, a Division II school where he threw for 2,925 yards and 26 TDs and ran for 1,019 yards and 25 TDs last season. He won a National Title with the Bulldogs and was a second-team All-American.
Kiffin was thrilled with getting Chambliss through the door and was excited to improve the room.
"Glad we were able to get that done. It makes the room better. AJ (Maddox) was doing a really good job ’til the injury. We’re very pleased with him."Lane Kiffin
As Kiffin mentioned, AJ Maddox, a 2024 recruit, has had a fantastic Spring. However, he suffered an unfortunate hand injury set to keep him out for the foreseeable. It was a big blow as he looked to be the clear backup to Austin Simmons and maybe even pushing for a start.
Simmons looks set to be the starter after being the backup to Jaxson Dart last season and performing well in a handful of games, especially that touchdown drive against Georgia. The injury must be severe enough for Kiffin to add another body to the room.
Chambliss may have played at Division II level, but his numbers are something else. He could come in and battle for the No.1 job, but likely he will be the backup. Due to his talents as a runner, he may also be used at times on special play calls.
