Georgia State is in the rearview mirror, and the Rebels will quickly turn their attention to the Kentucky Wildcats as they prepare for their first SEC game and also their first road trip of the season.

We are now nearly a year removed from the Rebel's shocking loss at the hands of the Wildcats inside the Vaught. The now retired Brock Vandgriff threw the pass of his life on a fourth and long to current LSU receiver Barion Brown, setting up the late go ahead touchdown for Kentucky. All Ole Miss fans watch Caden Davis potential overtime forcing kick sail wide left of the uprights and were left stunned.

Kentucky would go on to have an abysmal season, their lone SEC coming against Ole Miss. The Rebels would go on to end 9-3. coming up just short of reaching their goals of the College Football Playoff, in large part due to the Kentucky loss. That game has set with all Ole Miss fans, and it has left a lasting impact on Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin spoke to local media via zoom Sunday evening and spoke candidly, really for the first time, about the sting that that game still has on him.

“It was horrible on all fronts. It was such a bizarre game,” Kiffin said. ”So many ways that game could have gone our way and so many things went their way. It was hard to deal with….still had the ball ahead later in the game….it sucked.”

The Rebels will have a great chance to avenge that loss this upcoming Saturday. We know from current players, like TJ Dottery, that the team is ready to get revenge for last season.

Kiffin speaking during his weekly press conference highlighted how close the series has been between the two schools since he took over the Ole Miss job.

"Somehow, even including one before we got here, the last four, I believe, have gone down to the last play of the game. It's got to be a record. So, these guys always play really tough, really physical against us, and so we are going to have a really good week of practice like we did last week and be prepared to go on the road."
