Ole Miss fans know what the New York Giants are getting in quarterback Jaxson Dart. The GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll moved up into the first round after using their third pick on Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. Dart went to the Big Apple with pick 25, looking to be the next starting QB with the Giants.
Dart may not start on day 1, with veteran Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston brought in, likely with it in mind they would take a rookie to sit behind. The expectation is he will be the future starter, and when that comes, he will be throwing touchdown passes to 2024 first-round pick Malik Nabers.
Nabers played for LSU in college, and both players came up against each other in the 2023 season. Current Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has coached Dart and watched Nabers from the sideline. He spoke to the New York Post about the future partnership between the two.
"I think he’ll work so hard from Day 1 with him, and he’ll fly to wherever he is in the offseason to work with him and get down their throws and timing and everything. They’ll be an amazing pair for a long time to come."Lane Kiffin
The former Tigers wide receiver had a fantastic rookie season, finishing fifth in receiving yards in the league with 1,205 yards and adding seven touchdowns while having quarterback issues. Nabers is set to be a star for many years, and Dart could help if he breaks into the team.
Dart follows in the footsteps of former Ole Miss alumnus Eli Manning, who went to New York after some first-round drama in 2004. The Utah native broke numerous program records that Manning held and hopes to do the same in New York. Eli and Dart have a fantastic relationship, so I'm sure the two-time Super Bowl winner will not mind.
