The Ole Miss-Tulane matchup could be Jon Sumrall's final game, and he is eyeing nothing less than a historic part with one foot in the Swamp.
Even with one foot in Gainesville, Sumrall is determined to not repeat the same mistakes they did in the regular season, that led to them suffering their worst 45-10 loss of the season.
Jon Sumrall, Tulane ready to put up a fight
"It's still a game," said Sumrall, who spent four days in Gainesville last week and will move on to UF full-time following the CFP. "There's a lot of hoopla… but at 2:30 we're going to play a football game. And we have to play a better football game than the last time we played in Oxford, Mississippi."
The stakes are equally high for both teams, since both are making their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
"Last time we played rotten. And they played good, and they are a really good team. There's a reason they're in the position they're in playing in that league with that record. They're a big-time team. I want to see us play a better version of Tulane football."
In a wild, wild situation, Tulane could pull it off based on the strong advantage they have over the Rebels. While the Green Wave still have Sumrall coaching them through the Playoff, Ole Miss has a completely new head coach, calling his first-ever game.
The uncertainty that comes with a new head coach is all over college football about whether Golding could manage to truly hold off Tulane.
The odds favor the Rebels, but Sumrall could very well make this Tulane's revenge game.
