Ole Miss landed a top wide receiver commit in Folsom High School prospect Jameson Powell. The California high school may look familiar to Rebels fans. It's the home of five-star 2026 quarterback Ryder Lyons.
Powell and Lyons are close, on and off the field. When the wide receiver committed to Ole Miss, eyebrows were raised. Could Lyons possibly head to Oxford with Powell?
USC has been the heavy favorite to land the five-star talent, but Ole Miss and Oregon still hold significant interest in Lyons. Speaking to David Johnson at 247Sports Inside the Rebels, Powell said his recruiting hat is on when he talks to his friend about college.
"Yes, of course, I'm trying to pull him with me. We talk about it every day. We've been best friends since eighth grade, so I've been trying to get him to play with me this whole time. We always had aspirations of playing in college together. I'm trying to get him to commit to Ole Miss, as well."Jameson Powell
Powell has a great relationship on the field with Lyons, having back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and over 30 touchdowns in those seasons. As well as being a top talent, Powell says the connection the pair has is a big reason why the numbers are so good.
"It's different. It's like nothing else. Everybody that watches our games say they've never seen anything like it. It's crazy the way that we play with each other. We're with each other everyday, so I feel like it just translates to the field. We do certain plays that people are surprised and amazed at. It's crazy. We don't think about, we don't talk about it, it just happens. We just play football."Jameson Powell
Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin would be thrilled if they could secure a commitment from Ryder Lyons, the No.2 ranked quarterback according to 247Sports.
