Ole Miss football's hot May for recruiting continues as they landed a 2027 in-state prospect. According to On3, they landed defensive back Trae Collins, who committed to the Rebels on Sunday. The Hazlehurst (Miss.) recruit had offers from Penn State, Kentucky, and others but decided to stay home.

247Sports has no rating or ranking yet, but On3 has him as the No.8 prospect in Mississippi. He is also in the On-300, the top 300 players in the country in 2027, and is the No.19 safety in the nation.

It's the second commit for Lane Kiffin from the 2027 class, with the first being an in-state prospect in offensive lineman Li'Marcus Jones, the No. 9-ranked player in Mississippi per On3. It's two talented players with early commits for the Rebels, and usually, once in-state players commit early to the program, they don't go anywhere else.

Ole Miss has really ramped up it's recruiting in May, adding three in the 2026 class, and now one from the 2027. One of those 2026 commits was a Mississippi native in running back Damarius Yates, a four-star prospect.

Yates spoke about his commitment with On3 and loved the coaches, the scheme and Oxford.

"My Ole Miss visit was great. I liked their players, the way their scheme is. The offensive scheme that they run. The brotherhood that they have. Basically, it’s a great place to be."

Ole Miss is still in a good place for several other Mississippi players from the 2026 class. The crown jewel is wide receiver Triston Keys, who is currently committed to LSU. However, the Rebels are pushing hard for him, looking to flip his commitment like they did with Caleb Cunningham from Alabama in the 2025 class.
