Ole Miss basketball found an extra gear in overtime of their first game of the Rady Children's Invitational on Thursday, taking down BYU 96-85. The game was tied at 77-77 heading into OT, but eight consecutive free throws pulled the Rebels away from the Cougars.

The Rebels moved to 6-0 and set up a game against No. 13 Purdue, the 2024 NCAA Tournament runners-up. It's an excellent test for Ole Miss, or as Chris Beard would say, an opportunity. BYU may not have been ranked, but they were a No. 6 team heading into last season's March Madness. It was a strong statement win, so they are only short-point underdogs in this game.

The Boilermakers are 6-1, with their sole loss against Marquette, ranked No.10. They also have a win over SEC team Alabama, ranked No. 9. Ole Miss will need to play well, and what's good about the BYU win is that they have more gears to find. They can perform better in several areas, including offensive rebounding.

Unfortunately, the Rebels will play simultaneously as the Egg Bowl, which is unfortunate. However, fans can find the nearest bar and watch the end if football doesn't go past the expected finish time.
