It was a heartbreaker Ole Miss didn't deserve on Wednesday night at the Pavilion.
It was a textbook tussle, where both squads were fighting it out to keep the lead, and it all came down to the final two minutes.
A see-saw game
Ole Miss almost had the win in their pocket with a 69-59 lead over Kim Mulkey's Tigers with 5:14 on the clock.
Jada Richard completed 2 of 2 regular free throws, but the Rebels were too far ahead to be outscored with final minutes remaining on the clock.
Cotie McMahon tried to keep the lead with the Rebels as the Tigers were just about catching up, but it ended up in missed regular throws and fouls.
Jada Richard, once again, came in clutch for LSU in the very final seconds, completing 2 of 2 regular free throws at 0:40 remaining on the clock.
Coach Yo's squad couldn't match that 78-70 lead of LSU, as the Rebels fell to another, truly down-to-the-wire loss this season.
Lane Kiffin's exit for LSU had just injected a fresh layer of animosity into Oxford, making any loss against LSU — be it the turf or the hardwood — tougher for the Rebel nation.
What hurt more was that the 78-70 loss broke the clean 12-0 home record Yolett McPhee-McCuin boasted throughout this season, marking her first home loss of the season.
Latasha Litmore finished her night with 8 rebounds and 4 assists for 12 points. And McMahon signed off with on2 rebound for 2 assists and 25 points.
Their next stop is Columbia to take on South Carolina on Feb. 22.
