Four days after the winter transfer portal opened, Ole Miss had its first commitment, and it was a big one. LSU transfer edge Da’Shawn Womack has transfred to the Rebels, per On3.

Womack, a former five-star recruit from the 2023 class, is the No.3 ranked edge in the portal per On3 and has the opportunity to contribute instantly. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Fans angry Tigers' coaching staff didn't do more to keep him

When Da'Shawn Womack confirmed he would enter the transfer portal, LSU fans were unhappy—not with the player but with the coaching staff for not doing more to keep him in Baton Rouge.

Womack is now joining an Ole Miss defense that was one of the top performers under Pete Golding this season. However, a big chunk of the defensive line, including edge rushers Jared Ivey and Princely Umanmielen, is off to the NFL.

It gives the Baltimore native an opportunity to start regularly, something he craved at LSU. In his two seasons with the Tigers, Womack totaled 23 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and four pass deflections and can be a key contributor for the Rebels.

Lane Kiffin and his staff are starting to make a name for themselves by developing transfer portal guys, putting them in good spots, and helping them move on to the next level after college. Womack will hope for the same under DC Pete Golding in 2025.

Expect Ole Miss to be busy these few days, as several top players will be visiting from now through the weekend.
