Ole Miss football hosted a big recruiting weekend in Oxford, featuring some huge targets, flip candidates, and already committed players. There was plenty of positive news coming out on Monday, and when Mississippi State commit Emanuel Tucker decommitted, many thought he would be heading to Ole Miss.
The Rebels did manage to flip one commitment, but his name was not Tucker, although that still may happen. Wisconsin edge commit Carmelow Reed announced he was flipping to Ole Miss. The Illinois native was due to have an official visit in Madison this coming weekend, but that will no longer happen.
The program offered Reed back in March and has intensified its recruitment efforts since being rewarded with a commitment following a visit to Oxford. He is ranked the No. 14 player in Illinois and the No. 51 edge player by the On3 Industry rankings.
Speaking to On3, Reed had a glowing review of his trip to Oxford, and his head was well and truly turned by what it has to offer.
"The people around the city absolutely love the school and the players playing for the school so that was good. The staff was great, too. Like everybody was just awesome. I’m so excited about this."Carmelow Reed
It's the first of what Ole Miss hopes to be several commitments this week following Mississippi State's decommitment, as Emanuel Tucker hopes to be the next in for the Rebels. Tucker was in Oxford this past weekend and saw enough to decommit from the Bulldogs. It may not mean he will commit to Ole Miss this week, as it could have opened his eyes to more than just Mississippi State.
Tucker is an in-state prospect, with Lane Kiffin targeting Mississippi players heavily. Tucker is a top-ten player in Mississippi and a four-star-rated player.
