Ole Miss fans have quickly jumped on the back of offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. when things haven't been clicking—a portion wanting a change at the coordinator position after an offensive regression in 2024.

When Weis was linked to the open Florida Atlantic head coach job, the same portion of fans were ready to wave him goodbye. However, reports are that Texas Tech offensive coordinator Zach Kittley is finalizing a deal to become the next Owls head coach. This is bad news for those Charlie Weis Jr. haters.

Charlie Weis Jr. is the best choice at OC for Ole Miss

It's been a tough season for Ole Miss on offense, especially after the success of the 2023 season. Charlie Weis Jr. and running backs coach Kevin Smith have caught the flack for most of it. That's the brutal environment in college football: as soon as things go sideways, your past accomplishments are forgotten.

Only a section of the fanbase is petitioning for a change at OC; many others are still willing to move on from the 2024 season, hoping it will change in 2025. Florida Atlantic's interest in Weis Jr. as a head coach shows how highly he is thought of at 31.

There are still opportunities, but Weis will likely return to Oxford next season. A chance to silence the naysayers, to make them remember that it was just a few years ago that they were cheering those explosive plays, those eight-play touchdown drives.

Lane Kiffin was asked about Weis Jr and the negativity from the fans after the LSU game. Kiffin answered that he had been around that sort of thing all his life due to his father and could handle it.

Kiffin doesn't look like he will fire Charlie Weis or Kevin Smith before the 2025 season. However, they will need to change the direction of the offense to avoid those hot seats.
