Lane Kiffin joined the Paul Finebaum Show during his time down in Florida during the SEC Spring Media Meetings, and it was as iconic as always. When these two lock heads, it's full of tongue-in-cheek digs, where some may think they do not like each other. However, there is more respect between the two than you think.
The Ole Miss head coach had little to say about the college football season, instead engaging in banter back and forth, from Kiffin asking if any fanbase liked Finebaum to asking why he had gotten Georgia head coach Kirby Smart so angry.
Usually, when the two chat during these media days, Kiffin brings up the time that the SEC Network host got him the sack while he was head coach of USC. However, Kiffin took the high road this year, but he did bring it up once last time.
"We'll put it to rest here. There's the Gulf. I'm not longer gonna bring it up. I'm grateful for you, that's what I've said. Everything happens for a reason."Lane Kiffin
Kiffin has always expressed his gratitude to Finebaum, which led to him working under the great Nick Saban at Alabama and ultimately landing at Ole Miss, where he is much happier and content, enjoying his coaching and life.
The story is that Finebaum laid into Kiffin over a decade ago when Kiffin was the USC head coach, which he said resulted in him being fired, more or less, as he stepped off the airplane in California. How actual Finebaum's involvement was is unclear, but Kiffin has made sure to bring it up at every opportunity. That will be no more if his promise is fulfilled.
